PDP senator dumps party, joins APC

Senator Joshua Lidani of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Lidani’s defection was announced on the floor of the Senate by Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan, during plenary on Wednesday, November 28, which was monitored by Legit.ng. The former PDP lawmaker was elected on the platform of the party in 2015 and represented Gombe south senatorial district.

Senator Ahmad Lawan announces the defection of Senator Joshua Lidani from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, was said to have lost his reelection bid to a serving member of the House of Representatives, Binta Bello, who won the PDP ticket to contest for the senatorial district. Meanwhile, the Senate on Wednesday, November 28, confirmed the appointment of Olanipekun Olukoyede as secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) less than 24-hour after the confirmation was suspended. 

The confirmation was suspended on Tuesday, November 27, after a member of the Senate committee on anti-corruption and financial crimes, Isa Misau, accused the committee of preparing a report without the consent of others. Misau complained that the endorsement page report was signed by only three out of eight members of the committee. President Muhammadu Buhari, in a letter dated September 10, 2018, nominated Olanipekun Olukoyede, the chief of staff to the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, as the secretary of the commission.
